Prof. Anne MacLennan

Dr. Anne MacLennan is a professor for the Department of Communication Studies, Liberal Arts and Professional Studies, and the York-Ryerson Joint Graduate Program in Communication & Culture. Anne’s passion for teaching and academic research is mainly focused on media history. Most recently, she was awarded a SSHRC funded research project, entitled “Remembering Radio” recapturing the memories of Canadian radio from its inception in the 1930s. For the last three years Prof. MacLennan has employed over 75 research assistants including, high school, undergraduate, M.A, and Ph.D. students mentoring and teaching them fundamental research skills needed in the workforce.

Prof. MacLennan is excited to be a part of York’s initiative to introduce more experiential education into the Communication Studies program. COMN 4150, Experiential Media at Work, will allow Professor MacLennan to maintain a daily relationship with the students to help ensure their success in this course and their life beyond undergraduate studies.

Jolene MacDonald

Jolene MacDonald is in her final year at York university and will be graduating with an Bachelor of Honours, double major in Communication Studies and Law and Society. She is hoping to continue her studies at the graduate level and pursue a career in public relations and government policy. She is excited to help develop this course since it is based on such a contemporary form of education. Jolene began working for Anne on “Remembering Radio” in June 2010, and started working on this AIF project at its commencement in April 2011. Jolene currently oversees all aspects of the project including website design, employer relations, course materials, and publications. She can be contacted at jolenem@yorku.ca

Jennifer Ray

Jennifer Ray is in her third year of English and creative writing at York University. She has plans of continuing to her masters in writing in order to pursue a career in writing novels. She is particularly interested in this project due to its focus on technology and its social impact in the workplace. She has been gathering course materials, researching experiential learning, and is currently calling potential employers. She can be contacted at jenray@yorku.ca

Lisa De Paola

Lisa De Paola is a fourth year Honours Psychology student at York University. Lisa is new to AIF, beginning on the exciting project in October. With interests in Education and Learning, Lisa was very eager to join the AIF team and help create one of the most innovating and experience-oriented Communication courses that York University has to offer. She will be helping with obtaining positions for the internships, finding material for the course and calling potential employers. Feel free to contact Lisa at lisadep@yorku.ca

Jemuel Datiles

Jemuel Datiles is a third year Bachelor of Design (Honours) student under the joint program between York University and Sheridan College. With knowledge about graphic design and visual communication, Jemuel initially started with Remembering Radio with Professor Anne MacLennan on May of 2011 and has been working on text and audio transcripts of interviews, handled speech-to-text assignments and archives. He is currently attached to the AIF project by compiling course materials, potential placements and other duties connected to the project. He can be contacted at jemueld7@yorku.ca

Maida Amir is a fourth year Specialized Honours Communication Studies major at York University. Her research interests include the study of diaspora, ethnicity, transnational and cultural media in Canada. She hopes to pursue graduate-level studies in Communication and Culture. Rawan Ghazal

Rawan Ghazal is in her final year at York University double majoring in Communication Studies and Economics. After graduating, she hopes to work in broadcasting to promote Canadian media. She is eager to work on this project as she finds this new form of education valuable for undergraduate students. She will compile relevant course material and contact potential employees. Ian Weir

Ian Weir is in his third year of studying Political Science at York University. Ian has been working with Professor MacLennan since April 2011 on the “Remembering Radio” project. He is new to the Experiential Learning project and is looking forward to help develop the course. Ian can be contacted at idweir@yorku.ca

Judy Tse

Judy Tse is in her sixth and final year at York University. She is an undergraduate student finishing up her Honours degree in Psychology and completing her Bachelor of Education in the Concurrent Education Program. She has done quantitative research for her honours thesis and is interested in all matters regarding pedagogical development and its support in the public education system. She hopes to enter a Master of Education program in the near future studying Administration and Leadership. She joined the team in October 2011 and can be contacted at judytse@yorku.ca
